Updated October 2026. If you have clothes, shoes or household items you no longer use, Vinted can be a simple way to turn them into cash. This guide explains the selling process from listing your first item to getting paid, without promising that every item will sell.
How selling on Vinted works
- Create your listing with clear photos, an accurate title, category, brand, condition and price.
- Choose the parcel size and available shipping method carefully.
- When a buyer purchases, follow the shipping instructions generated for that order inside Vinted.
- Pack the item securely and send it within the deadline shown in the app.
- Payment is held while the transaction is in progress. Once the order completes, the money becomes available in your Vinted Balance and can be withdrawn or used on Vinted.
How to make a Vinted listing people can understand
Photograph the actual item in good light. Include the front, back, label and any wear, marks or damage. A useful title says what the item is rather than relying on vague phrases. In the description, add size, condition, relevant measurements and anything a buyer should know before purchasing.
How should you price items?
Search Vinted for comparable items in similar condition before choosing a price. Remember that an asking price is not evidence of what an item actually sells for. Leave yourself room for an offer only if you are genuinely comfortable negotiating.
What happens when your item sells?
- Open the sold-item conversation in Vinted.
- Check the exact carrier, label or QR-code instructions and deadline for that order.
- Use suitable packaging and make sure the parcel matches the selected size.
- Use the instructed drop-off route so tracking can update correctly.
- Keep the drop-off receipt or other proof until the transaction is complete.
Shipping options change, so do not rely on an old blog post or screenshot for the current carrier process. Our Vinted shipping and parcel-size guide explains this part in more detail.
How do you get paid?
Vinted says money is held as pending while the order is being completed. Once completed, payment moves to your available Vinted Balance; you can withdraw available funds to your bank account or use them on Vinted. Identity or other regulatory checks can sometimes be required.
Common beginner mistakes
- Hiding flaws instead of photographing and describing them.
- Choosing a parcel size without checking the packed item.
- Following payment links or moving a transaction outside Vinted.
- Using poor photos or a title that gives buyers little information.
- Throwing away proof of posting before the transaction is resolved.
- Assuming every low-view listing needs to be repeatedly deleted and re-uploaded.
How to improve your chances of a sale
Start with the basics: a desirable item, realistic price, searchable description, accurate condition and useful photos. Answer genuine questions promptly. If an item receives no interest, compare it with similar listings and improve the information or price rather than looking for a supposed algorithm hack.
Stay safe when selling
Keep the transaction and communication within Vinted and be suspicious of messages asking you to follow external payment links or provide sensitive information. See our Vinted scams and seller-safety guide before posting valuable items.
Do you pay tax on Vinted sales?
Selling your own unwanted possessions does not automatically make you a trader. HMRC says someone who buys or makes goods with the intention of selling them for profit is likely to be trading. Platform reporting to HMRC does not itself mean tax is due. Read our Vinted tax UK guide and the broader £1,000 trading allowance guide.
