Last updated: 20 October 2026. UK shopping guidance checked during the 2026/27 tax year. Offers, stock, delivery estimates and retailer terms can change.
Looking for cheap online clothing stores UK families can use without replacing everything a few washes later? A low price only helps if the clothes fit, feel comfortable and get worn.
I’m Dr Kalpana, a PhD scientist, former science teacher and UK mum. My approach is to compare the whole purchase: fabric, fit, delivery, returns and the saving you can actually use.
This guide brings together high-street sales, supermarket basics, outlets and second-hand finds. Start with the cashback check below, then choose a shop for what you need. You can plan the spending with my free UK money calculators.
Cheap online clothing stores UK: start with the gift-card check
Before paying, check whether an eligible gift card would reduce the cost of the purchase you already planned. It is a useful extra saving, not a reason to fill another basket.
Buy a gift card or withdraw cashback? These are different
With TopCashback’s TopGiftCards, you spend your own money on a retailer’s digital voucher and receive the cashback offered on that purchase. Read the individual card’s restrictions before paying.
With a cashback payout, you exchange cashback that is already payable in your account for a gift card. Some payout choices add a bonus. Compare the live payout options in your account; there is no fixed bonus for every retailer or member.
How I would check a gift-card purchase
- Choose the clothes first and check the final basket total.
- Search the live gift-card catalogue for the exact retailer. Do not assume Primark, Asda or M&S is always available.
- Read where the card can be used: online, in store, or both. Supermarket grocery and clothing websites may have different rules.
- Check the expiry date, minimum purchase, exclusions and whether part-payment is possible.
- Check whether paying with a gift card excludes ordinary click-through cashback. Do not assume the two stack.
- Buy only the amount you expect to use. Allow time for delivery and security checks.
A gift card ties up your money with that retailer. Returns may come back as a voucher balance rather than cash. Cashback is subject to terms, and a retailer failure can put a remaining balance at risk. Saving a small percentage is not worthwhile if you cannot use the card.
For the wider method, read how UK cashback sites work and my cashback gift-card guide. The TopGiftCards help page explains fulfilment and payout timing.
Choose the right shop for the job
I would shortlist two or three shops, rather than compare every website below. Start with the type of clothing you need; then compare similar fabrics, pack sizes and return costs.
| Your priority | Starting points | The important check |
|---|---|---|
| School uniform and growing children | George at Asda, Tu Clothing, F&F at Tesco | School rules, measurements, pack quantities and adjustable fit. |
| Workwear and longer-term basics | Next, Marks & Spencer, Uniqlo | Material, garment measurements and the cost of keeping it clean. |
| Lower-cost fashion | Matalan, Peacocks, Select Fashion, New Look, H&M | Full basket cost and whether you would buy it without the discount. |
| Brand clearance | TK Maxx, Highstreet Outlet, Secret Label, ASOS | The exact item, label information, size availability and returns. |
| Brand-new second-hand finds | Vinted, eBay | New-with-tags condition, seller photographs and buyer charges. |
When are the clothing sales? Retailer-by-retailer timing
Checked 20 October 2026. This table separates an announced event from a live clearance section and an unconfirmed next date. A permanent sale page does not mean everything is discounted, and last year’s calendar does not confirm this year’s launch.
| Retailer or platform | When to check | What is confirmed or still unknown? |
|---|---|---|
| Next sale | Seasonal sale announcements and the clearance range between events. | No next Christmas 2026 launch date verified here. Check official sale help for public access and VIP arrangements separately. |
| M&S sale | The sale page and account-specific Sparks offers. | Sale section available; no next nationwide launch date verified here. Sale and personalised offer terms differ. |
| Tu Clothing sale | Published promotion windows, especially when you are planning uniform. | Recent dated offers are shown above and have ended. The next blanket clothing discount is not confirmed in this table. |
| Argos clothing | When comparing a Tu promotion or checking an unavailable size. | Check the actual Argos listing and promotion terms; a Tu date does not prove matching Argos stock, price or eligibility. |
| George at Asda sale | Sale & Offers, plus the retailer’s November announcements. | A clearance route is available. No exact next clothing-event launch or blanket uniform discount verified here. |
| F&F sale | The clothing sale section and eligible Clubcard offers. | Sale section available; no next nationwide clothing launch date verified here. |
| Primark sale | Available markdowns and your participating store’s range. | Official sale section available. Do not assume one annual store-wide Black Friday discount or identical local stock. |
| Matalan Black Friday | November 2026 event announcements; ordinary sale stock between events. | The official page identifies a November 2026 event. Exact launch date, minimum spend and exclusions must be checked. |
| Peacocks Black Friday | November 2026; sign-up page for event news. | Official 2026 event page says November. It does not provide an exact launch date in the text checked. |
| Select Fashion sale | Regularly updated sale lines. | Rolling markdowns, rather than a next fixed date verified for this guide. |
| New Look sale | Current sale and Black Friday announcements. | Sale and event pages available; no exact 2026 event launch date verified here. |
| H&M sale | Current sale categories and eligible member offers. | Rolling sale selection available. Account access and promotional windows must be checked in the offer terms. |
| Uniqlo sale | Sale stock and the live limited-time offer announcements. | Sale section available; no future festival or Black Friday date verified here. |
| ASOS Black Friday | 27–30 November 2026. | Confirmed on ASOS’s UK event page. Exact start time was not announced in the text checked. Check code and brand exclusions. |
| Sports Direct | Current sale stock; refresh the UK Black Friday page nearer the event. | The UK event page checked still referred to 2025. No 2026 launch date treated as confirmed here. |
| SHEIN | Live UK campaign terms for the particular basket. | No future UK-wide launch date verified here. An app countdown or overseas campaign calendar is not confirmation. |
| Temu | Current eligible offers, after deciding what you need. | No fixed UK-wide clothing-sale date verified here. Personalised coupons may differ by account. |
| AliExpress | Official campaign rules with the UK selected as the delivery country. | No 2026 UK 11.11 or Black Friday launch schedule verified here. Do not substitute a US coupon calendar. |
| TK Maxx clearance | Clearance and Final Clearance stock, including your local store. | Official clearance sections available. No universal next yellow-sticker date verified across stores. |
| Highstreet Outlet | Surplus arrivals and the live flash-sale collection. | Rolling stock and promotions; no next fixed national start date verified here. |
| Secret Label sale | Current outlet sale and new surplus arrivals. | Sale collection available. Check the deadline on any additional offer rather than assuming a recurring calendar. |
| Vinted | When a suitable seller lists or reduces the item you want. | Individual sellers set prices. There is no single shop-wide clothing clearance date to wait for. |
| eBay | Saved searches, seller reductions and eligible platform promotions. | Individual listings and coupon campaigns have separate timing. No universal clothing-sale date. |
| Local Facebook groups | As local sellers list bundles or reduce asking prices. | No retailer-wide sale calendar; inspect the listing and agree the price directly. |
A useful year-round shopping plan
For purchases that can wait, use late December and January as a time to check winter clearance, and summer to compare end-of-season stock. Start checking uniform offers before the summer holiday rush. These are planning windows, not confirmed launch dates for every shop.
For November, use the retailer’s own announcement and my Black Friday UK guide. Do not wait for a sale if doing so leaves a child without something essential; equally, do not stockpile sizes just because a countdown is running.
Before buying: check the start and end time, eligible products, minimum spend, exclusions and delivery or returns terms. A dated promotion can end early or change, and its headline saving may not apply to your chosen item.
High-street value and supermarket clothing
1. Next
Worth checking for: workwear, children’s clothing and familiar sizes in the sale. Search by size first so you are not tempted by reductions on something that cannot fit.
A deeper markdown can mean fewer sizes left. Buy when the item meets your budget and you need it; waiting is a choice between price and availability, not a guaranteed next reduction. Check Next’s sale information for the current event.
2. Marks & Spencer
Worth checking for: schoolwear, underwear, socks and adult basics in your preferred fabric. Compare sale items with multipacks: the largest percentage reduction is not necessarily the lowest price per item.
Look in your Sparks account for offers you can actually use. Read the current loyalty terms, including activation, expiry and exclusions. Sparks offers and credit-card rewards are separate arrangements.
Buying the next size up can work for straightforward items you are confident will fit later. Be more cautious with fitted shoes, changing school requirements and a child’s unpredictable growth. Keep a small list of what is stored so you do not buy it twice.
3. Tu Clothing
Worth checking for: family basics and school uniform, especially when a relevant clothing promotion is running. Check the offer dates and exclusions rather than assuming schoolwear is included.
Tu’s Nectar guidance confirms points can be collected and spent online and in store. Read the redemption rules before relying on your balance at checkout. You do not need a credit card to collect Nectar points through ordinary eligible shopping.
4. Argos
Worth checking for: another route to search Tu clothing. If the item you want is unavailable on Tu’s site, check the exact product, colour and size on Argos, including availability for your postcode.
This is a useful second check, not a secret reserve of identical stock. Do not assume separate inventory, the same promotion or instant availability. Read Argos’s Nectar rules and compare the final total.
If you already hold an American Express Nectar card, only count points that have transferred and are available to spend. It is not a reason to open a card or borrow for clothes; the full-balance and fees warning above applies here too.
5. George at Asda
Worth checking for: children’s everyday basics, multipacks and schoolwear. I would put George on the comparison list rather than declare it the best-value brand for every family.
Compare the number of usable pieces, waistband adjustment and fabric composition. A cheap pack is poor value if one colour is not allowed at school. Check collection charges and gift-card acceptance on the actual clothing checkout before buying a voucher.
6. F&F at Tesco
Worth checking for: uniform and everyday family clothing. Check the current online range as well as your local store; do not rely on older advice that F&F is only available in person.
Read the conditions of any Clubcard offer and compare the member price with alternatives. A grocery loyalty offer is not automatically a clothing discount. My supermarket loyalty guide explains how to compare schemes.
7. Primark
Worth checking for: basics and an inexpensive item you need in the short term. Primark is useful to include in a value comparison, but it is not the same as a conventional home-delivery fashion website.
Check whether your chosen product is available for click and collect at a participating store. Include the journey cost. If a gift card is offered through a cashback service, check the redemption method rather than assuming you can use it for an online order.
8. Matalan
Worth checking for: family clothing, schoolwear and sale basics. Filter by size and compare individual items with multipacks.
Read loyalty and discount-code terms before checkout. Some offers need activation or exclude particular lines. For an in-store item with an unclear reduction, ask a staff member to check the current selling price; do not rely on a rumoured price-ending code.
9. Peacocks
Worth checking for: lower-cost everyday fashion and occasional outfits. Look at composition and garment measurements before comparing the headline prices.
Check the return route before ordering multiple sizes. An online purchase may have different practical return arrangements from a shop purchase. Keep the order email and return proof until the refund arrives.
10. Select Fashion
Worth checking for: trend-led womenswear at a lower initial price. Choose the piece you need rather than building an outfit around a promotion.
Read Select’s online returns policy before paying. Do not assume that taking an online order to a shop will produce a refund to your card. Ask customer services about unclear terms; statutory cancellation rights are separate from a retailer’s voluntary exchange policy.

More places for everyday clothing and brands
11. New Look
Worth checking for: everyday fashion and an outfit for a specific occasion. Use the fit filters where available and compare the garment’s measurements with something you already own.
Check whether an app, student or welcome offer beats the sale price, and whether they can be combined. Do not add accessories solely to qualify for a code.
12. H&M
Worth checking for: basics, children’s clothing and selected sale lines. Compare pack prices and fabric weights where the listing provides enough information.
A member offer is only useful if it applies to your basket. Check account eligibility, delivery charges and return costs. Keep the purchase affordable without a future reward.
13. Uniqlo
Worth checking for: straightforward layers, trousers and basics you expect to wear often. It may not have the lowest ticket price, so compare the role the garment fills.
A versatile item that works with several outfits may be better value than three cheaper alternatives. Check care instructions before buying knitwear; specialist cleaning can change the annual cost.
14. ASOS
Worth checking for: sale fashion, specific brands and a wider choice of fits. Search for the exact item elsewhere before accepting the discount percentage as evidence of a bargain.
Read the current delivery and returns conditions for your order and account. Do not assume a delivery subscription makes every return free or that every product has the same seller.
15. Sports Direct
Worth checking for: sportswear, PE kit and branded footwear. Compare the exact model or product code, rather than a similar-looking trainer.
Before buying several sizes, check the policy for online returns and the cost of sending them back. For footwear, fit and comfort matter more than the size of the crossed-out price.

International marketplaces: cheap prices need a closer check
SHEIN, Temu and AliExpress are not interchangeable factory shops. Seller, warehouse, fulfilment and product quality can vary. “Factory-direct” is not a guarantee that you have removed every middleman or found the lowest total cost.
16. SHEIN
A possible use: comparing a low-cost fashion item when timing is flexible. Read the composition, measurements and recent customer photographs for that specific listing.
Check the delivery estimate and whether each item is returnable before paying. SHEIN’s UK help describes a 30-day return window from receipt, with conditions and exclusions. Use the current UK returns policy for the rules applying to your order.
17. Temu
A possible use: comparing a clearly specified, non-urgent item. Decide what you need before opening the app, and ignore spending games that change the shopping list.
Temu’s UK policy offers a voluntary return window of 90 days from purchase for most products, subject to exclusions. The first eligible return per order is free under its conditions; later returns can cost you. Read the UK policy, including how refunds are made.
18. AliExpress
A possible use: a specific item you can assess from detailed measurements, seller information and photographs. Delivery and returns need checking at the individual listing level.
Do not assume every listing has free returns. The Free Return service terms apply to participating products and have conditions. Save the offer and return deadline shown with your order rather than borrowing a deadline from someone else’s purchase.
| Platform | Potentially useful for | UK delivery time | Returns: what to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| SHEIN | Non-urgent fashion with clear measurements. | Use the item and checkout estimate; local and overseas fulfilment can differ. No single verified range covers every order. | UK help states 30 days from receipt, subject to exclusions. Check returnability and label charges. |
| Temu | Specific low-cost items you have already compared. | Use the estimated arrival date for your order and address; mixed baskets may arrive separately. | Most products: 90 days from purchase under the voluntary policy; first eligible return per order free. Exclusions apply. |
| AliExpress | Specific listings with clear seller and product information. | Seller, warehouse and delivery method determine the estimate. Avoid a deadline purchase without suitable confirmed delivery. | Check the listing’s Free Return eligibility, deadline, destination and who pays postage. |
Countdown timers, spinning wheels and “add one more item” offers are prompts to spend. Write the item and maximum budget down first. A lower price tomorrow is not a saving if today’s bargain was something you never needed.
Secret-label clearances and second-hand finds
19. TK Maxx
Worth checking for: a specific brand, fabric or garment category. Compare the actual item’s fit and selling price, rather than treating the RRP as proof of value.
TK Maxx explains its buying model: stock comes through several routes, including closeouts, surplus and goods manufactured for the retailer. That last category does not automatically mean low quality.
20. Highstreet Outlet
Worth checking for: surplus clothing and reduced items where the listing gives enough material and sizing information. Some products are sold with original brand labels removed or altered.
Read the individual description. Do not assume an unbranded item is from John Lewis, Boden or M&S unless the seller identifies it. Check the returns policy before ordering several uncertain sizes. A headline “up to” reduction is not the discount on every piece.
21. Secret Label
Worth checking for: excess-stock clothing and familiar styles at a reduced selling price. Its own explanation describes surplus stock from a range of circumstances; the garment’s listing matters more than a guessed original brand.
Check the fabric, measurements, any disclosed imperfection and the current returns conditions. A cut brand label is not the same as missing fabric or care information. Ask before ordering if those details are unclear.
22. Vinted
Worth checking for: children’s bundles, coats and brands where you already know the fit. Use the New with tags condition filter when you want unworn items, then inspect the actual photographs.
Ask for measurements and a clear label picture if necessary. Compare the item price plus delivery and buyer charges with the new retail price. Read the platform terms; buying from a private seller is different from buying from a business. My Vinted guide also explains how to clear outgrown clothes.
23. eBay
Worth checking for: new-with-tags items, used clothing bundles and a specific discontinued style. Use the condition filters and search the brand, size and garment type together.
Read whether the seller is a business or a private individual, and check their stated returns arrangements. “New with tags” does not prove authenticity or fit. Save the listing and keep messages on-platform.
For local bundles, Facebook groups can be another route. Check condition, agree what is included and inspect before paying where practical. Never assume a private sale gives you a retailer’s change-of-mind returns. Here is my guide to local Facebook selling.

How to buy cheap clothes without losing quality
I would not judge an entire garment from one fibre name. Polyester can be appropriate for a rain jacket or sportswear; cotton can still be thin or poorly constructed. The useful question is whether the fabric and construction suit the job.
- Read the composition. “Satin”, “linen look” and “wool feel” do not tell you the fibre percentages. UK textile guidance explains fibre-content labelling.
- Check the seams and finish. Use close-up pictures; inspect stitching, buttonholes and zips when it arrives.
- Measure something that fits. Compare chest, waist, inside leg and garment length, not just the age or size label.
- Read the care instructions. Include dry cleaning, ironing and any care you will realistically do.
- Test the wardrobe match. Can you wear it with what you already own? Needing another purchase changes the cost.
Sale tricks: what I would actually rely on
| Claim you might hear | My practical approach |
|---|---|
| Next always goes from 50% to 70% off on a predictable timetable. | Compare the current item price and available sizes. There is no verified universal timetable in this guide. |
| A handwritten Next tag such as R18 guarantees an £18 sale price in a few days. | I could not substantiate a current official rule. Ask staff about the displayed selling price; a pencil mark is not an offer. |
| Matalan or Peacocks scanners reveal future clearance through .03 or .07 price endings. | I could not verify this with either retailer. Ask for a price check on the exact item; do not generalise another shop’s code. |
| A cut label proves premium-brand stock at 70% off. | Read the listing, compare the fabric and price, and check returns. Neither the original brand nor a fixed saving follows from a cut label alone. |
What I’d do first with a limited clothing budget
- Make a needs list. Separate urgent replacements from clothes you can wait to buy. Put uniform, shoes and coats in a clothing savings pot (my paid product) where that helps.
- Choose a short comparison list. Use supermarket ranges for basics, a sale or outlet for known fits, and new-with-tags listings for a specific brand.
- Compare the final total. Add delivery, expected return charges and any buyer fee. Check a gift card only after you know the correct retailer and amount.
A clothes allowance should fit the rest of the household budget. Use the 50/30/20 budgeting guide as a starting point, or explore the grocery savings calculator if your weekly food shop needs attention first.
For occasional extras, check fashion birthday discounts. For big seasonal purchases, use my Black Friday guide and fake-deal checklist. Those guides go into the offer checks; this page helps you choose where to start.
Your final checkout and returns checklist
For most online clothing purchases from a trader, you normally have 14 days after receipt to tell them you are cancelling, then another 14 days to return the goods. Exceptions apply, including some personalised or unsealed hygiene items. Faulty goods have separate rights.
- Check who the seller is and the address for returns.
- Check sale-item, gift-card and loyalty exclusions.
- Check whether a return label costs money, and whether a refund goes to your original payment method or gift-card balance.
- Keep the care and brand labels attached until you have checked the fit.
- Save the order confirmation, applicable offer terms and proof of return.
For ordinary cancellation refunds, a trader can normally withhold the refund until the goods are back or you provide evidence of return, whichever comes first. Read the official guidance if a retailer’s wording is unclear. Private-seller purchases need a different check; do not assume the same cancellation right applies.
Cheap online clothing stores UK: FAQs
Which cheap online clothing stores are best for quality?
Start with the garment rather than a brand-wide promise: compare fabric composition, measurements, construction and care. Supermarket ranges can suit basics, while high-street sales, surplus outlets and new-with-tags listings can reduce the price of familiar brands. Include delivery and returns before deciding which is best value.
Do I pay customs tax on SHEIN orders under £135?
For ordinary non-excise goods imported into Great Britain in a consignment worth £135 or less, Customs Duty is generally not charged, but VAT can still apply and is normally collected at checkout. Above that, check import VAT, duty and handling arrangements. Northern Ireland rules differ; read current GOV.UK guidance.
Where can I buy high-street brand outlet clothing?
Check Highstreet Outlet, Secret Label, TK Maxx and the original retailer’s own sale or clearance section. Availability changes. Read the item description, material, sizing and returns policy. A removed label does not prove a particular original brand or guarantee a fixed percentage saving.
Can I use cashback gift cards on sale clothing?
Sometimes, but it depends on the card and retailer terms. Check whether the voucher works online or in store, whether sale goods are excluded and whether ordinary cashback is lost when using it. Check refund treatment too, then buy only the value you need.
Can I buy brand-new clothes second-hand?
Yes. Use New with tags filters on Vinted and eBay, then inspect seller photographs, labels and measurements. Compare the delivered total with the current shop price. Check whether you are buying from a private person or business, because the returns position can differ.
