Last checked: 10 October 2026. Here are the UK birthday freebies I could confirm on each brand’s own website this month, all in one table, with the catch for each. Some are completely free, like a Costa cake or a Greggs doughnut. Others are discounts, or “free” only when you buy something else. I’ve separated them clearly so you can sign up for the ones that genuinely save you money, and skip the rest.

Each category has its own detailed guide: coffee and cake, restaurants, beauty, fashion and jewellery, kids and entertainment.

The best completely free birthday treats
If you only want rewards that cost nothing, these are the ones to sign up for:
- M&S Sparks: the widest choice, from cookies to flowers. Add your birthday at least 35 days before.
- Costa: any single sweet-counter item, but only 7 days to use it.
- Caffè Nero: a cake, cookie or madeleine, with 14 days to use it.
- Greggs: a sweet treat in your app on the day.
- Krispy Kreme: an Original Glazed doughnut for Rewards members.
- Zizzi: a free main for Zillionaires’ Club members. It’s the most valuable no-catch freebie on the list, though you’ll probably buy drinks or a second meal.
Space NK’s birthday gift is free to collect in store too, but only if you’ve bought something there in the last 12 months.
How to set up your birthday freebies (do this a month before)
- Pick 5 to 8 brands you’d use anyway. Signing up to everything fills your inbox and tempts you to spend.
- Add your real date of birth. Costa only lets you change it once a year, and TGI Fridays may ask for proof.
- Do it at least 5 weeks ahead. M&S needs 35 days. Nike needs 10, schuh 8 and TGI Fridays 7. Five weeks covers them all.
- Switch on emails or app notifications where required. Costa, Space NK, The Body Shop and Rituals all ask for marketing consent.
- Make a “birthday” email folder, or use a separate deals email address, so codes don’t get lost.
- Note each expiry in your phone. They range from 7 days (Costa) to 6 weeks (PizzaExpress).
Birthday freebies by category
Free cake and coffee on your birthday
Coffee shops give the easiest birthday freebies in the UK: Costa, Greggs, Caffè Nero, Krispy Kreme and M&S need no purchase at all. See the full rules in my coffee shop birthday freebies guide.
Free birthday meals
Restaurant rewards nearly always need a second main or a minimum spend, so the best one depends on who’s eating with you. Bella Italia’s £15 off £30 is good for families, and Zizzi’s free main is good for couples. Details are in my restaurant birthday freebies guide.
Beauty birthday gifts
Beauty schemes give the most generous-looking gifts, but most depend on past purchases or loyalty tier. My beauty birthday freebies guide sorts them into “free”, “free if you’ve shopped before” and “with purchase”.
Fashion and jewellery birthday discounts
Clothes shops give discounts rather than freebies. Nike and H&M both give 25%. See which items are excluded in my fashion birthday discounts guide.
Kids’ birthday freebies
Children’s birthday rewards include Build-A-Bear’s birthday bear offer, toy shop clubs and birthday meals. They’re all in my kids’ birthday freebies guide. For eating out in the school holidays, see where kids eat free or for £1.
Cinema, bowling and entertainment
Leisure brands tend to offer birthday treats and party deals rather than free entry. See my entertainment birthday freebies guide before you book a birthday outing.
Is a birthday freebie worth it? My 3 rules
- Free means £0. If you have to buy something else, it’s a discount, so compare it like one.
- Don’t travel for it. Claim treats on trips you’re already making. A £3 cake isn’t worth £5 of parking.
- Don’t spend to unlock a tier. Starbucks Gold, Pandora Gold and ASOS A-Lister only make sense if you already spend that much.
If birthdays always squeeze your budget, plan for them. A sinking fund for birthdays spreads the cost across the year, and my free UK money calculators help with the bigger numbers.
Watch out for birthday freebie scams
Fake “free birthday gift” texts and social media posts are common because people expect them. Only claim rewards in the brand’s own app or from an email you can check. A real birthday reward never asks for your bank card or a delivery fee. If in doubt, open the brand’s app yourself and don’t click the link.

UK birthday freebies: FAQs
What can I get for free on my birthday in the UK?
As of October 2026: a free sweet treat from Costa, Greggs, Caffè Nero and M&S, a Krispy Kreme doughnut, a free main at Zizzi, gyoza at Wagamama (for active members) and a Superdrug treat. Many more brands give a discount or a gift with purchase.
How far in advance should I sign up for birthday freebies?
At least 5 weeks. M&S Sparks needs your birthday on your profile 35 days before, and most others need between 1 and 14 days.
Do I need ID to claim a birthday freebie?
Most app rewards just need you to scan the app. TGI Fridays may ask for proof if you change your date of birth. Check the terms on the reward.
Can I claim birthday freebies after my birthday?
Often, yes. Most rewards last 7 days to 6 weeks from when they’re issued. PizzaExpress lasts 6 weeks from the 1st of your birthday month, and Costa only 7 days.
Every offer above was checked on the brand’s own website or app pages between 1 and 10 October 2026. Birthday rewards change often, so check your app or email before you travel or spend. I’m not paid by any of these brands.
I’m not a financial adviser. This guide is general information; offers and eligibility rules can change.
