Last updated: 10 October 2026 · Checked against Swagbucks’ own site and GOV.UK on 10 October 2026. Rewards, points values and features change often, so always check the site itself before you rely on any figure here.
Is Swagbucks UK legit, and is it worth your time? Swagbucks is a real rewards site that UK members can join for free, and it pays out in PayPal cash and gift cards, but the amounts are small and it suits some people far better than others.
Hi, I’m Dr Kalpana Govindaraasan. I’m a scientist (my PhD is in materials chemistry), a former secondary science teacher and a mum, and I’ve made my home in the UK. I like testing claims against the evidence, so in this Swagbucks review for the UK I’ve gone through Swagbucks’ own help centre and rewards pages to explain how it works, how you’re paid, what you can realistically expect, the common complaints, and how tax works. I’ll also cover other paid survey sites UK members can join. I’m not a financial adviser, and I’m not connected with any of these companies.
Swagbucks UK in 30 seconds
| Question | Short answer (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Is it a real company? | Yes. Swagbucks is run by Prodege, a US company, and launched in 2008. |
| Can UK people join? | Yes, there is a UK Rewards Store with rewards in pounds. |
| How do you earn? | Points called SB for surveys, shopping cashback, games, offers, searching and daily activities like Swago. |
| How are you paid? | You swap SB for PayPal cash or gift cards. The UK store has listed Amazon.co.uk gift cards from £1 and PayPal from £5. |
| How much can you earn? | Small amounts. Swagbucks doesn’t publish typical earnings, and nobody can promise you a figure. |
| Biggest frustrations | Being screened out of surveys, slow shopping credits, and accounts closed for breaking the rules. |
1. Is Swagbucks UK legit?
Yes, Swagbucks is a legitimate rewards site, not a scam. It’s run by Prodege, LLC, a company based in California, and it has been going since 2008. Its help centre explains how you earn, how rewards are delivered and why accounts are closed, and it doesn’t charge you to join.
“Legit” isn’t the same as “worth it”, though. You earn points, not wages, and many tasks pay very little for the time they take. Think of Swagbucks as a way to turn spare minutes and shopping you were doing anyway into the odd voucher, not as a job.
One thing to know: Swagbucks’ help centre is shared across countries and is written mostly for US members (you’ll see dollars and US tax forms). Some features may look different in your UK account, so check what’s actually on offer when you log in.
2. How Swagbucks UK works: ways to earn SB
Everything on Swagbucks is earned in points called SB. These are the main ways Swagbucks says you can earn them.
2.1 Surveys and the Daily Poll
Surveys are what most people join for. You answer questions for market research companies and get SB if you complete the survey. There’s also a Daily Poll, a single quick question each day for a tiny amount of SB.
Swagbucks says some surveys can take up to 7 business days to credit, so don’t panic if SB doesn’t appear straight away. It suggests noting the Survey ID before you start, in case you need to chase it.
2.2 Shop & Earn (shopping cashback)
If you click through to a retailer from Swagbucks and buy something, you can earn SB back, a bit like a cashback site. Most stores give SB based on what you spend (not counting things like delivery and VAT), while some give a flat amount.
Be patient here. Swagbucks says a purchase usually shows as “pending” within 30 minutes to 7 business days, and the SB can take 32 to 75 days from the purchase date to be awarded. Returns and cancellations don’t count.
2.3 Games
Swagbucks offers SB for playing certain mobile and online games, usually for reaching a target level within a set time. Read the conditions carefully before you start, because some targets take a long time to reach, and keep an eye on in-game purchases.
2.4 Swago
Swago is a bingo-style game. Each square on the board is an activity, like completing a survey or searching, and finishing it marks the square. The SB you win depends on the pattern you complete. You can only submit your board once, and submissions close at midnight, so check your pattern before you press submit.

2.5 Search, offers and other extras
You can also earn SB by searching the web through Swagbucks, by trying “Discover” offers (signing up to services, often with a free trial), by entering Swag Codes, and by hitting a Daily Goal. Magic Receipts (uploading receipts for SB) is listed in the help centre too, but check whether it’s available in your UK account.
A word on offers: some involve free trials that turn into paid subscriptions. Only sign up for something you’d actually want, and put a reminder in your phone to cancel before the trial ends.
3. How you’re paid: Swagbucks UK rewards
When you’ve collected enough SB, you swap them for a reward in the Rewards Store. On the UK store, Swagbucks has listed:
- PayPal: £5, £10, £15, £25, £50 and £100
- Amazon.co.uk gift cards: from £1 up to £100
- Other UK gift cards, such as Tesco
The SB cost of each reward is displayed in your UK Rewards Store when you log in. Check the current points cost, available denominations and redemption terms there before choosing a reward; these can change and account offers can differ.
3.1 How long rewards take
Swagbucks says rewards are typically received within 10 business days. Gift cards arrive by email: you click the link, sign in and confirm your password to see the code. That link expires after 24 hours, but you can request a new one from your account.
3.2 Verifying your reward
You’ll usually need to verify your order, and Swagbucks says if you don’t do this within 7 days, the order is cancelled and your SB goes back into your account. Some members are also asked to do a one-time security check with a PIN sent by text or postcard.
3.3 Getting paid by PayPal
If you want PayPal cash, set it up properly first. Swagbucks says:
- your first and last name on Swagbucks must match your PayPal name exactly
- your Swagbucks email must match your PayPal email
- your PayPal account must show as “Confirmed”, which means linking a bank account
If you’re saving towards something bigger, gift cards can work well too. I explain how to stack reward apps into Amazon vouchers in my guide to turning cashback and reward apps into Amazon vouchers.
4. How much can you earn on Swagbucks UK?
I’ll be honest with you: not much, and it varies hugely from person to person. Swagbucks doesn’t publish typical UK earnings, so I’m not going to give you a figure, and I’d be wary of anyone who promises one.
What decides how much you get:
- Whether you qualify for surveys. Surveys target particular groups, so some people get far more matches than others.
- How much you already shop online. Shop & Earn rewards spending you were doing anyway. Never buy something just for the SB.
- How much time you give it. Small daily tasks add up slowly.
A sensible way to look at it: if a task pays very little for 20 minutes of your evening, that’s a poor hourly rate. Swagbucks works best for odd moments, like waiting for the kettle or sitting in the car at pick-up, and for cashback on planned shopping. If you want something that pays more fairly for your time, have a look at my guides to supermarket mystery shopping and transcription jobs for beginners.
5. Common Swagbucks UK complaints (and how to avoid them)
Most frustrations with Swagbucks, and with survey sites generally, fall into a few groups. Here’s what they are and what Swagbucks’ own help pages say about them.
5.1 Getting screened out of surveys
The most common complaint is starting a survey and being disqualified partway through, often without any SB. Swagbucks explains that each survey is looking for a particular type of person, and if your answers show you’re not in that group, the survey ends. Completing a pre-screener doesn’t guarantee you’ll qualify.
It’s annoying, but it’s how market research works. What helps: fill in your profile honestly, and treat the time estimate as a guide only.
5.2 Surveys being disabled
Swagbucks says it can switch off your access to surveys if you collect too many “invalid” flags. To avoid this:
- Use your real date of birth and keep your details consistent.
- Don’t rush. Speeding through a survey can get you flagged.
- Read every question, including “trick” attention checks.
- Write real answers in open text boxes, not gibberish.
- If you agree to a focus group or interview, turn up.
5.3 Slow or missing shopping credits
Because shopping SB can take 32 to 75 days, people often think it’s gone missing. Keep your order confirmation emails, and if the purchase hasn’t shown as pending within 7 business days, contact Swagbucks through the help section.
5.4 Accounts being closed
You’ll see people say their account was closed and their SB lost. Swagbucks lists reasons it deactivates accounts, including having more than one account, using bots or automation, “unnatural” searching or clicking, and encouraging others to break its rules. It also warns that sharing an account with others in your household may lead to deactivation.
The safest approach: one account per person, your real details, no VPNs or tricks, and cash out regularly rather than letting a big balance build up.
6. Do you pay tax on Swagbucks UK earnings?
Swagbucks’ own tax page is about US tax only, so ignore it if you live in the UK. Here’s what UK rules say, as far as I could find for the 2026/27 tax year.
- Cashback on your own shopping: HMRC’s Business Income Manual says that a customer choosing to shop with one business rather than another isn’t providing a “service”, so ordinary cashback on your own purchases isn’t caught by the miscellaneous income rules.
- Doing tasks for a reward: HMRC’s manual says a casual receipt can be taxable when it’s “received for a service performed as agreed/arranged for reward”. HMRC doesn’t publish guidance specifically on survey or reward sites, so if you earn regularly from surveys or tasks, check with HMRC.
- Referral rewards: the same manual says cashback for introducing another customer can be taxable.
- The £1,000 trading allowance: GOV.UK says you can get up to £1,000 a year tax-free from trading income, which includes casual services. It’s based on your gross income, and it’s £1,000 across all your side hustles added together, not £1,000 each.
- Over £1,000: you generally need to register for Self Assessment by 5 October after the tax year ends. For 2026/27 (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027), that’s 5 October 2027.
For most people, a few gift cards a year from Swagbucks will sit well within this. But keep a simple note of what you redeem from each site, especially if you also have other side income. My side hustle tax guide explains the £1,000 allowance step by step, and my side hustle tax calculator helps you add it all up.
7. How to get started with Swagbucks UK safely
- Sign up on Swagbucks’ own website or official app. Never through a link promising “guaranteed” earnings.
- Use your real name and the same email as your PayPal, so cashing out is smooth later.
- Complete your profile honestly to get better survey matches.
- Start with what you already do: planned online shopping and quick daily tasks.
- Read the conditions on every offer and game before you start, and cancel free trials on time.
- Cash out small and often, once you reach the reward you want.
- Set a time limit. If it starts eating your evenings for very little, stop.
8. Other paid survey sites UK members can join
If you want to try more than one site, these all accept UK members. I checked each one’s own website on 10 October 2026. I’m not ranking them or saying any is the best: each works differently, so pick the ones that suit how you like to spend your time.
8.1 Prolific
Prolific connects people with academic and research studies. The UK is a supported country, you need to be over 18 with a verified account, and new participants join through a waitlist. Researchers must pay at least £6 an hour (Prolific recommends £9), and you cash out by PayPal once your approved balance reaches £6.
8.2 YouGov
YouGov was founded in the UK in 2000 and runs well-known opinion polls. You earn points for surveys, which build up in your YouGov Wallet, and you can swap them for a reward once you reach a set balance. The threshold is shown inside your account.
8.3 Toluna
Toluna has a UK site, and you must register on the site for the country you live in. It gives 500 points when you join, and surveys pay between 15 and 50,000 points depending on length. Points expire after 12 months, so don’t let them sit. Rewards include vouchers and cash, and can take up to 3 weeks to arrive.
8.4 Microsoft Rewards
Microsoft Rewards gives points for searching with Bing and doing small daily activities, and the UK is on Microsoft’s list of supported regions. Check the Redeem page in your account to see which UK rewards are available.
8.5 Ipsos iSay
Ipsos iSay is run by the market research company Ipsos and is for UK residents, with one account per person. Rewards are priced in points with pound values, for example a £5 Amazon gift card at 500 points. Its UK terms say you must be 16 or over, but one of its help articles says 18, so check before you sign up.
8.6 Qmee
Qmee is available in the UK and pays for surveys, cashback and search. It says there’s no minimum withdrawal to PayPal. Your PayPal account must be fully verified and registered in the UK, and once linked it can’t be unlinked, so choose the right one.
8.7 Quick comparison
| Site | What you do | How you’re paid | Published cash-out rule (checked 10 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swagbucks | Surveys, shopping, games, offers, search | PayPal or gift cards | UK store lists PayPal from £5, Amazon.co.uk from £1 |
| Prolific | Research studies | PayPal | £6 approved balance |
| YouGov | Opinion surveys | Rewards from your Wallet | Set balance, shown in your account |
| Toluna | Surveys | Vouchers or cash | Not published; points expire after 12 months |
| Microsoft Rewards | Bing search, daily tasks | Rewards on the Redeem page | Shown in your account |
| Ipsos iSay | Surveys | Gift cards and more | Rewards from 200 points |
| Qmee | Surveys, cashback, search | PayPal or gift cards | No minimum to PayPal |
Signing up to a few sites gives you more survey matches, but it also means more emails, so a separate email address for surveys can help.
