Waitrose Christmas delivery slots are available to check for the festive period, but the appointment is only one part of planning the shop. You also need to know which food service you are using and when changes must be saved.
I would start with the delivery day, storage space and total food budget. A convenient order is useful only if the food suits the people you are feeding and you can comfortably pay for it.
I’m Dr Kalpana Govindaraasan, a PhD scientist and UK mum. This guide explains the published Christmas booking information and how to keep ordinary groceries separate from Food Made to Order.
Waitrose Christmas delivery slots: confirmed information
Waitrose’s 2026 Christmas dinner guide tells customers to book from 30 September for appointments between 20 and 24 December. The date range is not a promise that every postcode still has every time available.
For Christmas Food Made to Order, the official terms give midnight on 15 December as the amendment deadline. Ordinary grocery changes follow the cut-off for the delivery or collection booking. Keep both deadlines.
1. Sign in before choosing food
Open Waitrose’s official website or app and check the address in your account. If you want collection, select the store you can actually reach and look at the available appointments.
Choose a main date and a backup. Consider who will receive the delivery, how much space there is for chilled food and when you intend to cook. An earlier appointment is helpful only if the food remains suitable for your plans.
If you are buying for another household, agree the date and dietary requirements with them first. A delivery that clashes with their plans creates work instead of making life easier.
2. Compare delivery with collection
Check the fee, qualifying basket rules and local availability for both services. A collection appointment can be convenient when it fits a journey you are already making, but a special trip can add time and travel costs.
Do not assume collection uses exactly the same product range or deadlines as delivery. Follow the instructions for the order you are placing and keep the store details with the confirmation.
Use the supermarket Christmas delivery comparison if you need another retailer. The Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons guides cover their own processes.
3. Check any Delivery Pass conditions
If you already have a Waitrose Delivery Pass, read the terms attached to the plan. Day coverage, minimum spends and priority eligibility are separate matters from simply holding a loyalty account.
Waitrose’s Delivery Pass page describes a joining cut-off for Christmas early access. Do not buy a pass today assuming it creates retrospective priority or unlocks an appointment that is already full.
Compare the subscription commitment with the deliveries you expect to use. Include its cost when you judge whether “included delivery” is worthwhile for your household.
The supermarket loyalty guide helps separate loyalty benefits from paid services. The subscription checklist can help you keep track of any recurring payment.
4. Complete and confirm the booking
Choose your appointment, add the items you need and finish the checkout process. Look for a saved order confirmation rather than relying on the time you clicked or a basket still on screen.
Check the delivery address or collection store, the date and time, and any instructions about later changes. Save the order number so you can find it when you return to the account.
If you see an error, check your orders before repeating the process. Establish whether an order already exists, whether the appointment is still attached and whether another checkout step is required.
Keep the confirmation somewhere both people can find it if another household member will receive or collect the shopping.
5. Separate the two food deadlines

Food Made to Order items need preparation, so the deadline is earlier than for many ordinary groceries. Waitrose’s terms explicitly distinguish the two parts of a mixed order.
Keep a short list of the prepared products and their deadline, then another for ordinary groceries and the cut-off shown in your order. Do not use the later deadline for the whole basket.
Before the prepared-food deadline, confirm your guest numbers and check portions, allergens and storage. Avoid ordering a larger centrepiece simply because the festive description sounds appealing.
After making changes, complete the required save or checkout steps. An edited trolley does not prove the revised order is saved.
6. Compare the menu and the bill
Write the meals you are providing before browsing. Check cupboards, fridge and freezer, then buy around a realistic number of servings. A larger basket can create waste and make cooking harder.
Compare the whole cost: food, delivery or collection, subscription commitments and any relevant basket charges. Check the amount shown for your chosen slot rather than borrowing a price from another person’s order.
Use the grocery savings calculator, the grocery bill checklist and the family shopping guide to organise the basket.
For gifts, use a separate limit through the gifts by age guide and toy sale dates. The Christmas budget hub brings those plans together.
7. Check suitability and storage
Read the specific product listing for serving size, ingredients, storage and preparation. A Christmas range may include vegetarian options, but that does not establish that an entire meal bundle suits every dietary need.
Check the labels on arrival, particularly if food has been substituted. Do not assume the replacement has the same ingredients as the item you originally chose.
Plan fridge and freezer space before accepting a large order. Where freshness information is supplied, use it alongside the product’s storage instructions to decide whether your appointment works.
Keep the menu flexible enough to cope with one unavailable ingredient. A straightforward alternative can be more useful than an elaborate plan that depends on every product arriving exactly as ordered.
8. Keep a fallback appointment
If your preferred day is full, check another suitable time, collection or another supermarket. Returning to check for cancellations is an option, but a cancellation cannot be promised.
For products that can safely be bought earlier, use normal shopping trips and follow storage guidance. Avoid filling the cupboard with duplicates in the name of getting organised.
If the food budget is becoming uncomfortable, simplify the menu before looking for another offer. The money makeover guide and my free money calculators can help you review the bigger picture.
What I’d do first

I would choose a realistic appointment, complete the order and record both food deadlines. Then I would check the menu against storage space and the spending limit before adding optional extras.
- Check local appointments.
- Separate prepared-food deadlines.
- Review your confirmation.
Frequently asked questions
When do Waitrose Christmas slots open?
Waitrose’s 2026 Christmas dinner guide gives booking from 30 September for slots between 20 and 24 December. Check your account and postcode to see what is still available now. A published opening date does not guarantee your preferred appointment remains.
When is Waitrose Christmas Food Made to Order due?
Waitrose’s terms say amendments to Christmas Food Made to Order must be completed by midnight on 15 December. Ordinary groceries have a separate booking-specific cut-off. Check product preparation requirements and your confirmation before relying on either deadline. Keep the relevant terms with your confirmation so you can check the conditions attached to your own order.
Can I change my Waitrose Christmas order?
Yes, within the appropriate terms and deadlines. Food Made to Order and ordinary groceries can follow different rules, even within one order. Record each cut-off, make the changes and complete the save or checkout process required by the account. Keep the relevant terms with your confirmation so you can check the conditions attached to your own order.
Do I need a pass for Waitrose Christmas delivery?
Check the live booking options for your account rather than assuming a pass is required for every appointment. A Delivery Pass has its own benefits and priority conditions; buying one now does not establish retrospective eligibility for an earlier priority window.
