You want to earn through TikTok, but the advice jumps between opening a shop, promoting someone else’s products and getting paid for video views. It’s difficult to know what to apply for, whether you need stock or what a sale would pay you.
Let’s choose the route first. You’ll learn what running a shop involves, how affiliate promotion differs and what to check before spending money or filming a batch of videos.
Start with this decision: do you want to supply the product and deal with orders, or recommend another seller’s product? Keep that answer in mind as you read the setup and eligibility questions.
Cost examples are for planning. This is general information; I’m not a financial adviser.

Choose the income route first
| Route | What creates income | Main job |
|---|---|---|
| Shop merchant | Product sales, less business costs | Supply and fulfil orders, support customers |
| Affiliate creator | Commission on qualifying sales | Create accurate promotional content |
| Creator Rewards | Eligible programme rewards | Meet programme and content requirements |
1. How do I sell on TikTok Shop UK for beginners?
Choose your role first: a seller supplies products and fulfils orders; an affiliate creator promotes another seller’s products for commission. They have different responsibilities.
- Check the product and role. Read the UK product rules before sourcing anything.
- Use the official onboarding. For your own shop, start at TikTok Shop UK Seller Centre and select the appropriate business type.
- Complete verification. Provide the accurate personal or business documents requested, payout details and operational addresses.
- Prepare one clear listing. Use accurate photographs, specifications, price, stock information and delivery details.
- Calculate the margin. Include goods, platform commission, any affiliate commission, fulfilment, returns and promotion.
- Prepare fulfilment and support. Understand the current dispatch, returns and settlement rules before opening orders.
- Test useful content. Demonstrate the actual product and make only claims you can support.
- Review completed orders. Track profit and customer issues, rather than celebrating views alone.
Begin with a manageable test. Neither approval nor posting a product guarantees sales.
2. What is TikTok Shop Seller Centre, and where do I log in?
It is the seller’s operational workspace for shop setup and management. Use the official UK seller page to reach registration or login. Bookmark the genuine address instead of following a direct message offering to “activate” your shop.
Check the selected market before reading policies. A US guide may show different fees or eligibility from the UK. Keep login codes private and give helpers only the permissions they need.
3. Do you need 1,000 followers to sell on TikTok?
Not as a single rule covering every role. The current UK creator e-commerce eligibility policy, dated 3 September 2026, lists 500 followers and age 18 or over, alongside other requirements. Its application guidance also mentions recent posting, genuine followers and location/account conditions.
An older UK help page still quotes over 1,000 followers. Use the current UK policy and your application screen. Opening a seller shop, obtaining creator product permissions and going LIVE are separate checks.
4. Can I sell on TikTok Shop without followers?
Apply through the seller route if you intend to supply your own products; do not treat affiliate follower requirements as the entire seller-registration process. Seller approval still requires the checks shown during onboarding.
For independent UK affiliate creator access, the current general policy lists 500 followers. Do not buy an account or followers to bypass eligibility. An approved shop without an audience still needs a credible way to attract customers.
5. How do I become a TikTok affiliate without 1,000 followers?
A UK creator with between 500 and 999 genuine followers may meet the current follower criterion, provided the other requirements are met. Check your own eligibility through the creator tools and Shop permissions flow; approval is not based on follower count alone.
If you are below the applicable threshold, develop useful original content and recheck legitimately. A seller-linked account or invitation is not a universal shortcut to every affiliate feature.
6. How do I start affiliate marketing on TikTok?
Check UK creator eligibility, apply through the official in-app flow and complete the verification and payout steps requested. Once eligible, choose a relevant product from the available affiliate options and read its commission and content conditions.
- Choose something you can demonstrate accurately.
- Check the actual product, limitations and seller information.
- Create an original explanation or demonstration.
- Add the approved product link using the available tools.
- Make the advertising relationship clear upfront.
- Review qualifying sales and settled commission, including cancellations.
The UK affiliate programme page explains the relationship between creators and sellers. Never invent a personal testimonial for a product you have not used.
7. How do TikTok Shop affiliates get paid?
Affiliates earn commission on qualifying product sales rather than receiving a fixed wage for posting. Rates differ by product or collaboration. Estimated commission is not the same as money already available to withdraw.
Illustration: if the eligible commission base is £20 and the agreed rate is 10%, the calculated commission is £2. Discounts, cancellations, returns and programme rules can affect the final amount. The 10% is an assumed example, not a standard TikTok rate.
8. Can I sell on TikTok Shop without inventory?
Affiliate promotion is one route where you recommend another seller’s products without holding their stock. You still need eligibility, accurate content and clear advertising disclosure.
If you operate the shop yourself, outsourcing storage or fulfilment does not remove responsibility for product quality, stock accuracy, delivery and customer issues. Do not assume a supplier or dropshipping arrangement is permitted: check the current UK policy for the exact model before taking orders.
9. Is it free to sell on TikTok Shop?
Do not confuse an account-opening offer with free completed sales. TikTok’s UK commission policy states a standard 9% rate inclusive of applicable taxes, while category reductions and other terms can apply. Check the rate for your own product.
Stock, delivery, returns, creator collaborations, samples and advertising can add costs. A promotional discount is not a permanent fee schedule.
10. How much does it cost to start a TikTok Shop?
There is no universal startup budget. It depends on whether you are an affiliate creator or a merchant, what you sell and what equipment you already own.
| Merchant budget | Creator budget |
|---|---|
| Stock or production, compliance checks, packaging and fulfilment | Time, suitable recording setup and any samples you choose to fund |
| Platform fees, any affiliate commissions, returns and promotion | Content production, any tools and applicable tax |
Use a cost sheet before committing. Keep money available for returns and slow-moving stock. Do not borrow on the assumption that a video will go viral.
11. Is selling on TikTok Shop worth it?
It is worth testing when you have an eligible product or relevant affiliate offer, can make useful content and can measure a realistic return. It is a poor fit when the margin depends on ignoring returns or paying yourself nothing indefinitely.
Set a test budget and a review date. Record completed sales, actual costs, customer issues and time. Stop or change the approach if those numbers do not support it. For alternatives, compare the eBay guide and Etsy guide.
12. How much money can I make on TikTok Shop?
No reliable figure can be promised to a new seller. Revenue, profit and affiliate commission are different measurements.
Illustration: £500 of merchant sales minus £350 of combined product, platform, delivery and other business costs leaves £150 before personal tax and your time. Those assumed costs are not an exact TikTok fee calculation. An affiliate instead records the commission earned, not the merchant’s full sales total.
13. How can I earn $100 per day on TikTok?
There is no guaranteed method. Work backwards from qualifying commission or profit, rather than from a view target.
Dollar example matching the question: at $2 settled commission per qualifying order, $100 requires 50 such orders. At $5, it requires 20. These are arithmetic examples, not typical results. They do not establish that you can attract those buyers or repeat the result daily.
14. How do I sell through TikTok LIVE?
First check access to LIVE and the relevant Shop product permissions. Having one feature does not automatically grant the other. Use the current checks in your account rather than a follower rule copied from another market.
Prepare a small set of eligible products, demonstrate their actual features and explain price, sizes, limitations and delivery accurately. Use authorised sounds and add product links through the available tools. Avoid false scarcity, exaggerated claims or pretending viewers have placed orders when they have not.
15. Do I need a Business Account for TikTok Shop?
A TikTok social-profile type, seller registration and creator Shop permissions are related but distinct. Use the official onboarding for your role and follow the linking or account-type requirements it gives you.
TikTok’s account-type guidance recommends a Business Account where the primary aim is promoting a business. Do not change account type solely because an old tutorial says it will unlock every monetisation programme.
16. What is the downside of a TikTok Business Account?
The account is designed for commercial activity. TikTok says Business Accounts do not have access to its general music library because those tracks are not cleared for commercial use; they have access to the Commercial Music Library instead.
Some monetisation options have different account requirements. Check each programme separately before switching. A Personal Account is not a licence to use unsuitable music in an advertisement, either.
17. What are 10 disadvantages of using TikTok for a business?
- Time spent planning and filming.
- Uncertain reach.
- No guaranteed sales from views.
- Platform and policy changes.
- Product eligibility restrictions.
- Commission and other operating costs.
- Returns and customer-support work.
- Dependence on account access.
- Music and content-rights requirements.
- Risk of over-relying on one channel.
These are planning risks, not claims that every business will experience every problem. Test whether the channel fits your product and capacity.
18. How much are you paid per 1,000 views on TikTok?
There is no single guaranteed payment for 1,000 ordinary views. Shop sales and affiliate commissions are not a fixed view-rate payment.
Creator Rewards is a separate programme with eligibility and qualifying-content rules. TikTok’s programme guidance lists requirements including 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the previous 30 days. Meeting those numbers alone is not a guarantee of acceptance or earnings. Use your actual rewards dashboard rather than an internet-wide “TikTok rate”.
19. How much is 500,000 TikTok views worth?
A view count alone cannot tell you. A video might generate no qualifying rewards or sales; another could lead to orders with a measurable margin.
For Shop content, measure qualifying orders, settled commission or merchant profit. For Creator Rewards, use the programme’s qualified-view calculation. Do not multiply all 500,000 views by a claimed universal rate.
20. How much money is 30,000 TikTok views worth?
There is no fixed conversion from 30,000 views into pounds. Account eligibility, content eligibility and the income route all matter. Even a popular post can earn nothing directly.
Track what actually happened: product clicks, completed qualifying sales, refunds and settled earnings. Treat a payout estimate as an estimate until it is confirmed.
21. How much do UK TikTokers get paid?
There is no standard UK TikToker salary. People may receive shop profit, affiliate commission, sponsorship payments or programme rewards, with different costs and payment conditions.
A sponsorship fee reported by a large creator is not a useful promise to a beginner. Compare your net income with the total time spent and keep separate records for each route.
22. Does TikTok pay monthly?
It depends on which earnings you mean. Shop settlements, affiliate commissions, Creator Rewards and sponsorship invoices do not all follow one payday.
Check the current settlement or payout information for the exact programme and your account. Verify whether an amount is estimated, pending, settled or withdrawable. Do not rely on a blanket “monthly TikTok payday” to cover a bill.
23. Can you make a living from TikTok?
It can form part of a business income, but a new account has no guaranteed route to a living wage. Test demand and calculate profit before depending on it for essential bills.
Build records over time, allow for quieter periods and avoid making one algorithm your entire financial plan. My emergency-buffer guide covers giving irregular extra income a purpose.
24. Who is the highest-paid creator on TikTok?
I have not verified an authoritative current ranking that establishes a single highest-paid creator. Public lists may estimate sponsorships or wider business revenue rather than money paid by TikTok itself.
This is not a useful earnings benchmark for a new seller. Focus on the costs and results of your own test rather than comparing yourself with a celebrity’s estimated business income.
25. Why is everyone leaving TikTok now?
The wording assumes a trend without evidence. This guide does not establish that “everyone” is leaving TikTok. Individual creators may leave or diversify for many reasons, but that is not proof of a platform-wide departure.
Decide whether it serves your audience and business using your own results and credible dated evidence. Avoid making a financial decision from a search suggestion alone.
26. Can I sell digital downloads on TikTok Shop?
Do not assume Etsy-style downloads are eligible. The current UK prohibited and unsupported products policy lists digital media and digital downloads of books and other media among unsupported products.
Check the exact product policy before listing. For original downloads, see my Etsy digital-selling guide. I run KGDesignedCo on Etsy, selling digital downloads; that does not demonstrate eligibility for TikTok Shop. I also have a MoneySavvyUK Payhip shop and publish my books on Amazon; those are separate selling routes, with their own product rules. It is my own shop, so I benefit from purchases.
27. What advertising and UK tax rules should I check?
The ASA treats affiliate promotion as advertising. Make that relationship clear upfront, such as with a prominent “Ad” label, and use the platform’s disclosure tools as appropriate. Do not hide the relationship in a profile page or a long hashtag list.
Keep records of relevant sales or commissions and expenses. HMRC’s online-income guidance explains reporting across trading activities. Use my trading allowance guide for the distinction between gross income and profit. Merchants should also read UK distance-selling obligations.

Plan your first product demonstration
Choose your role, check that your account and product meet the current requirements, and work out the costs. Outline one honest demonstration that shows the product in use and answers a likely buyer question. Review the response before buying more stock or making a large batch of videos.
Choose one role, check access, cost one offer and create a manageable batch of accurate content. Review actual results before increasing spending. Compare the selling platforms in the UK online-selling guide.
