Best Receipt Cashback Apps UK: Shopmium, Shoppix & More

Compare UK receipt cashback and reward apps including Shopmium, GreenJinn and Shoppix, how claims work and sensible ways to stack grocery savings.

Last updated: October 2026 · Offers, payout rules and app availability change often, so check each app’s current terms before you buy anything for a reward.

Looking for the best receipt cashback apps UK shoppers can use right now? You’re in the right place. These apps pay you a little money back for things you buy anyway, just by snapping a photo of your receipt.

They won’t make you rich, and I’m not going to promise you a set amount a year. But if you already do a weekly food shop, a few minutes with the right app can take a small, steady bite out of your grocery bill.

In this guide I’ll explain how receipt cashback apps work, which ones still operate in the UK, what each one pays out and how, and what you’re sharing in return.

How the best receipt cashback apps UK shoppers use actually work

Receipt apps often get thrown into one big list, but there are really two different types. Knowing which is which saves a lot of frustration.

1. Product cashback apps

These apps show you offers on specific products, such as money off a new yoghurt or a branded cleaning spray. You buy that exact product, photograph your receipt (and sometimes scan the barcode), and the app credits cashback to your balance. Shopmium, GreenJinn and CheckoutSmart work like this.

2. Receipt panel apps

These apps reward you for sharing your shopping receipts in general, even when there’s no special offer. Your receipts become market research data for brands and retailers. Shoppix works like this.

The first type usually pays more per claim, but only for the products on offer. The second type pays small amounts for almost any shop, in return for more of your data.

Shopmium: best for big-brand grocery offers

Shopmium is one of the best known UK grocery cashback apps. You pick an offer in the app, buy the exact product at a participating supermarket, then photograph your receipt and scan the barcode when asked.

Shopmium says claims are processed within 2 business days. Your cashback builds up in your Shopmium balance, and you can withdraw it to your bank or PayPal once you reach £10.

Watch out for: offers are often tied to one retailer, one pack size and a set date range. Check all three before you put it in your trolley.

CheckoutSmart: best for a low first payout

CheckoutSmart is still going, despite rumours that it had closed. It works for online and in-store supermarket shopping: buy the featured products, then upload a photo of your receipt or your online delivery note.

Your first cash payment can be taken once you have £1 in your account. After that, the minimum is £5, paid to your bank or PayPal. Check the payment schedule shown in your account before requesting a transfer.

Watch out for: CheckoutSmart cash withdrawals may have a processing fee. Check the live withdrawal screen for the fee and any fee-free threshold before choosing how much to transfer.

GreenJinn: best for trying new products

GreenJinn uses the same simple routine: add a coupon in the app, buy the product at full price in store or online, then snap your receipt. GreenJinn checks it, and its website says cashback is paid directly to your PayPal.

Offers tend to be on new or smaller brands, so it’s a nice way to try something different without paying full price for the experiment. Check the app’s FAQ for the current minimum balance and payment times.

Shoppix: best for rewards on any receipt

Shoppix is different. It’s run by Kantar, a large market research company, and it pays you in tokens for snapping eligible shopping receipts and answering quick surveys. Scratchcards and a weekly prize draw can add extra tokens.

You can exchange tokens for PayPal cash or vouchers from a choice of retailers. How much you collect depends on how many eligible receipts you send and the current rewards, so treat it as a small bonus rather than an income.

Watch out for: you’re sharing a lot more about your shopping with Shoppix than with a single product offer (more on that below).

Why isn’t ZIPZERO or Storewards on this list?

Older money-saving posts often have long lists of receipt apps. That looks impressive, but apps close, pause sign-ups, change rewards or stop serving UK shoppers. I’d rather give you a shorter list I’ve checked than pad it with names you can’t use. If you want to be paid for visiting shops instead, have a look at supermarket mystery shopping in the UK.

What about your privacy?

Here’s the part many lists skip. Receipt apps are free because your shopping data is valuable. When you send a receipt, you’re showing what you bought, where, when and how much you spent.

  • Product cashback apps mainly need proof you bought the promoted item, but they still see the whole receipt.
  • Receipt panel apps like Shoppix exist to collect shopping data for market research. Shoppix’s App Store privacy label lists purchase history, your name, address and email, and photos among the data linked to you.

A few simple habits help:

  1. Read the privacy policy before you sign up, and only give the details you need to.
  2. Only connect your email account to an app if you’re comfortable with it reading shopping emails.
  3. Delete apps you’ve stopped using, and ask them to close your account.

Can you use the same receipt in more than one app?

Sometimes, if each app’s terms allow it and the receipt is genuinely yours. There’s no rule that every receipt works everywhere, though. Product cashback apps need the exact promoted item, and each app has its own checks to stop fraud.

Never alter a receipt, send someone else’s, or open extra accounts to get round limits. You could lose your balance and your account.

7 tips to get more from receipt cashback apps

  1. Check the apps before you write your list, not in the aisle.
  2. Only claim on things you’d buy anyway. Cashback on something you didn’t need isn’t a saving.
  3. Read the small print: retailer, pack size, dates and claim limits.
  4. Keep the whole receipt until your claim is approved.
  5. Take a clear photo on a flat surface in good light, with the store name, date and total showing.
  6. Mind the fees. On CheckoutSmart, waiting until you have £20 avoids the 5% charge.
  7. Withdraw regularly rather than leaving a big balance sitting in an app.

How receipt apps fit with other cashback

Receipt cashback happens after you’ve bought something and sent proof. That means you can sometimes stack it with other savings, as long as each offer’s terms allow it:

  1. Use your supermarket loyalty app to get the member price.
  2. Pay with a supermarket gift card bought through a cashback site.
  3. Claim receipt cashback on any qualifying products afterwards.

Best receipt cashback apps UK: FAQs

Are receipt cashback apps legit?

The four apps in this guide are real, operating UK services, and each explains how it pays on its own website or app store listing. Like any reward app, read the terms and only share what you’re comfortable with.

Which receipt app pays out the fastest?

It depends on the app and when you claim. Shopmium says it processes claims within 2 business days; CheckoutSmart usually pays every other Thursday. Check each app for current timings.

Which app has the lowest minimum payout?

Of the minimums we could confirm, CheckoutSmart lets you take your first payment from £1 (then £5 after that), but transfers under £20 carry a 5% fee. Shopmium’s minimum is £10.

How much can you earn with receipt apps?

There’s no honest single figure. It depends on how many offers match what you buy and how many eligible receipts you send. Be wary of anyone promising a set amount a year.

Do receipt apps sell my data?

Receipt panel apps like Shoppix collect shopping data for market research, and that’s how they fund the rewards. Read each app’s privacy policy to see exactly what’s collected and who it’s shared with.

Best receipt cashback apps UK: summary

  • Shopmium: big-brand offers, £10 minimum, bank or PayPal.
  • CheckoutSmart: £1 first payout then £5, bank or PayPal, 5% fee under £20.
