Leave pay often changes in stages. Plan those changes before your household has to absorb them: estimate statutory and enhanced gross pay, then compare an explicitly estimated net amount with your bills.
How I would use this result
Start with a recent payslip, bill, statement or written quote. Replace the example amounts, change one assumption at a time, then check whether the difference would affect your household budget. Keep the assumptions beside the result so you can revisit the comparison when circumstances change.
How the calculation works
For an eligible maternity-pay schedule, use 90% of qualifying average weekly earnings for six weeks, then the lower of 90% and the statutory weekly rate for 33 weeks. Paternity uses up to two paid weeks. Enhanced pay is entered as a total including statutory pay, never added on top. Apply your entered deduction percentage to estimate net pay, then compare income with expenses over the selected weeks.
Example: check the calculation
For qualifying weekly earnings of £700, the first six statutory maternity weeks are £630 each. Later statutory weeks are £194.32 at the 2026/27 rate. An employer’s enhanced total must not be counted twice.
Before relying on the result
This does not establish statutory-pay eligibility or calculate PAYE refunds. A fixed deduction percentage is an assumption, not a tax calculation. Dates, paydays, partial weeks, rate changes during leave, shared-parental/adoption/neonatal pay and employer repayment clauses need separate checks. A period over 39 maternity weeks or two paternity weeks is unpaid unless enhanced pay covers it. Weekly detail is shown; calendar-month payroll will differ.
Your questions answered
Is statutory pay added to enhanced pay?
Usually employer quotes include it. Enter the total enhanced weekly pay, and check the policy.
Why is net pay only an estimate?
PAYE depends on your tax code, earlier earnings and payroll timing. Use an employer forecast for a reliable household budget.
Can I model shared parental leave?
Not in this version. Use the statutory schedule and employer policy for that arrangement separately.
